Getting a referral
To see Dr de Hoog, you need a referral from your GP or another specialist. The process is straightforward - here is exactly what to do.
Three simple steps
See your GP
Make an appointment with your GP and describe your symptoms - the joint or area causing pain, how long it has been a problem, and how it affects your daily life. Ask your GP whether a referral to an orthopaedic surgeon is appropriate.
You can mention Dr de Hoog by name and ask your GP to refer you specifically. If your GP agrees a specialist review is warranted, they will write the referral on your behalf.
Your GP sends the referral
Your GP will send the referral directly to Aspire Orthopaedics - you do not need to deliver it yourself. They can email it to the practice or send it through their practice software.
If your GP has arranged any imaging (X-rays, MRI, CT), they will typically include this with the referral. Relevant imaging is helpful but not a requirement to get started.
The rooms will call you
Once the referral is received, the rooms will contact you directly to arrange your first appointment with Dr de Hoog. You do not need to call us - we will call you.
If you have not heard from the rooms within a week of your GP sending the referral, feel free to call the clinic to confirm it was received. You may require further medical imaging prior to your appointment with Dr de Hoog. Our team will advise if imaging is required and organise the appropriate request.
What to tell your GP
To help your GP write a useful referral, come to your appointment prepared with the following:
- Which joint or area is causing pain or problems (hip, knee, hand, wrist)
- How long you have had the problem and how it started
- What activities or movements make it worse
- Whether you have already tried non-surgical treatment such as physiotherapy, injections, or anti-inflammatory medication
- Any imaging you have had - X-rays, MRI, or CT scans
- How the problem is affecting your day-to-day life - work, sleep, mobility
